Hare Krishna Prabhus and Matajis,
Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada!
Today is the auspicious day of Vasant Panchami, marking the onset of the beautiful spring season. This day signifies the beginning of newness and freshness, both in nature and within our hearts. On this sacred occasion, we also worship Mother Saraswati, the goddess of wisdom and knowledge, praying that she bestows upon us the essence of all knowledge—the transcendental knowledge of the Supreme Lord, Sri Krishna.
On this wonderful day, Lord Krishna performed His beautiful rasa-lila with His unalloyed devotees—the gopis of Vrindavan. Meditating on this divine pastime reveals the highpoint of saranagati (complete surrender) embodied by the devotees of Vrindavan.
The gopis dedicate everything—their body, mind, words, intelligence, talents, reputation, and more—solely to Krishna. Their hearts are absorbed in nothing but the desire to please Him. In response to their intense, pure love, Krishna reciprocates by dancing with them, delighting in their unwavering pure devotion.
The love of the Vrajabasis is so pure and so deep that it makes the Supreme Lord Himself dance! Therefore, the gopis exemplify the essence of complete surrender as described in the Bhagavad Gita:
sarva-dharmān parityajya
mām ekaṁ śaraṇaṁ vraja
ahaṁ tvāṁ sarva-pāpebhyo
mokṣayiṣyāmi mā śucah
“Abandon all varieties of religion and just surrender unto Me. I shall deliver you from all sinful reactions. Do not fear.” (BG 18.66)
Therefore, on this auspicious day, let us renew our commitment to devotional service, aspiring to follow in the footsteps of the devotees of Vrindavan. Let us wholeheartedly glorify Sri Sri Radha Krishna by chanting Their Holy Names with purity and sharing Their divine love generously with everyone we meet.
Wishing you all a happy Vasant Panchami and Saraswati Puja!
Your servant,
Satya Sara das
